Fit Pick™ is part of Balanced For Life™, a program created by the National Automatic Merchandising Association (NAMA) for the purpose of educating Americans about the role of healthy snacks and the importance of a balanced diet and physical activity. In Clark County, Washington, Community Choices and Steps to a Healthier Clark County are taking the lead. In 2006, their initiative convened a group of local employers, school districts and vending operators who shared the common goal of increasing access to healthy food in area vending machines. Together, this team researched nutrition criteria, labeling options, products and their placement in machines, as well as marketing and promotion concepts. In 2007, the team adopted the Fit Pick™ labeling system and organized their work into this website, the Guides to Planning and Implementation and Fit Pick™ promotional materials to support other communities, worksites, schools and organizations that wish to pursue the same vision.
